There is a wonderful new beach bar that has opened in Speightstown called One Eleven East Beach Bar. Actually, it is more of a beach hut really.
My initial visit was to catch up with an old friend. She told me they served the most amazing coffee and that it was her most favourite place to hang out. Being a self proclaimed coffee snob I was indeed overwhelmed by the world class coffee that was served in a unique tin mug. Coffee is not something Barbados is particularly known for but this place will certainly put coffee on the map of Barbados!
On a subsequent visit with my husband we enjoyed colder beverages while sitting on the upper level deck overlooking the beach and just marvelling at the view. We felt we were in a different world – very different from the usual beach bar scenes we know. As one visitor put it, it is cool and laid back, uncomplicated with the most amazing beach view.
One Eleven East Beach is in the process of developing their food menu and while limited selections are currently available they anticipate having a more extensive menu in the near future. In the meantime, aside from their delicious coffee and fresh teas, along with pastries from The Cliff Beach Club, patrons can enjoy cold beer and wine, local rum punch (and yes water and soft drinks). And to satisfy the hunger pangs, the Bar Bites Menu is available along with daily a specials menu with sandwiches and a charcuterie and cheese board.
Not only is this a gem of a beach bar, but One Eleven East Beach also offers stand-up paddle boards for hire along with a glass bottom kayak at very reasonable rates. So drop by for a coffee, a drink, a bite to eat, soak up some sunshine on a sun bed, cool off in the sea, go paddle boarding or kayaking.
For those unfamiliar with the stretch of beach from Jordans Supermarket to the Fisherman’s Pub this is a calm and tranquil spot where you can relax away from all the hustle and bustle of other beach bars and their beach activities.
But shhhhhhh…..keep this to yourself, we don’t want too many people to know about it – we’d like to keep it as a hidden gem!!
